VR Medical E-Learning

Introduction

For Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) to experience the feeling of entrapment and loss of freedom faced by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) patients on a day-to-day basis. We wanted HCPs to truly understand the impact of IBS on patients so they proactively treat multiple symptoms of IBS to improve patient quality of life.

What we did

This was our first project combining a VR experience with elearning in an easy to use mobile setup (pre-Oculus Go). A 3-minute virtual reality experience was developed by the global healthcare agency, Emotive, and focused on a global pharmaceutical company for their gastrointestinal (GI) portfolio for HCPs from multiple GI specialities. This aligned with the brief that was to provide a 360º VR immersive experience of the global campaign maze visual. Sliced Bread created the 3D models and animation assets.

The use of the maze visualizes the complexity, frustration and lack of clear direction that patients and physicians alike encounter in not being able to treat all the symptoms involved in IBS. Bringing together these two elements – the challenge is for users to ‘Escape the Maze’.

Benefits

VR brings an entirely new dimension to these types of mundane and compulsory training sessions. You can physically turn a passive learning experience into an active one by incorporating visual cues to emphasise the most important aspects of the training program.

LMS integration

One of the key benefits organisations are finding is that when VR technologies are integrated into learning management systems (LMS), they have a profound effect on staff training.

Whilst standard training methods are a standalone experience that is difficult to monitor effectively, computer simulators enable trainers to collect data that answers questions about how proficient they are.
